Jake Castaldi and Malta’s Men U18 waterpolo team have been named the winners of August’s Atlas Youth Athletes of the Month Award.
Fifteen-year-old Castaldi, the Snooker U16 National Champion, claimed victory in a closely contested final, defeating Nick Muscat 4-3 and recording an impressive break of 55 points. This is not Castaldi’s first recognition, having previously received the Atlas Youth Athlete Award as part of a team with his brother Chaylon in October 2022, with Steven Muscat in November 2023, and with Dielyn Edwards in November 2024.

Meanwhile, Malta’s Men U18 waterpolo team achieved a historic result at a European Championship, securing 9th place, the best finish ever across all Maltese age groups. The team defeated Germany in a penalty shootout in Oradea, Romania, having already beaten the same opponents during the tournament’s group stage.

The awards were presented by Matthew von Brockdorff, Managing Director and CEO of Atlas Insurance, alongside Robert Micallef, Chief Commercial Officer. The Malta Sports Journalists Association was represented by President Antvin Monseigneur, General Secretary Joanna Camilleri, and Administrator Stephen Azzopardi.
The Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award is organised by the Malta Sports Journalists Association in collaboration with Atlas Insurance. The panel reviews the achievements of under-21 athletes each month and considers nominations submitted by local sports associations and federations.
