The iconic venue set the stage for a thrilling start to this year’s series, blending history and athleticism in a memorable race.
Participants competed in either the 10km or 5km categories, with sunny January skies providing an ideal backdrop for the occasion.
Mark Herrera claimed victory in the 10km race, showcasing his endurance and tactical prowess. Although closely shadowed by Jemima Farley during the first half, Herrera surged ahead in the second loop, crossing the finish line to secure first place.
Farley, undeterred, finished as the second overall athlete and clinched the women’s title with an impressive performance.
Daniel Portelli and Gianni Ciappara rounded out the men’s podium with commendable efforts, while Josann Attard Pulis and Ritianne Zammit took second and third place, respectively, in the women’s category.
The 5km race delivered a photo-finish moment as Alessandro Vizzini narrowly edged out Kersten James by just two seconds. Miguel Cassar secured third place, showcasing a determined effort.
In the women’s division, Charyl Fava demonstrated dominance, comfortably claiming first place ahead of Nadia and Lorna Mifsud, who finished second and third, respectively.
Race Director Charlie Demanuele praised the event’s success, saying, “This race truly highlights the charm of the Three Cities, blending history with sport in such a unique way. We’re delighted with the incredible turnout and thrilled to kick off the Hudson Race Series on such a high note, especially as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the very first race in the series.”
Adding to the day’s highlights, veteran athlete Godwin Tonna continued his streak of participating in every edition of the Hudson Race Series since its inception in 2015. His dedication serves as a testament to the race’s enduring appeal and the spirit of the running community.
Organisers extended heartfelt thanks to the Hudson Group for their unwavering support, as well as to the Race Officials’ Team, the medical and logistics teams, Transport Malta, and the local councils of Cospicua, Senglea, and Vittoriosa. The next race of the 2025 Hudson Race Series is set for April 6 in Tal-Maqluba.
