Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni spoke in the announcement of the second round where the Gauchos against Mexico will try to make up for the surprising defeat by Saudi Arabia in the first round of the World Cup.
“We know that we have a responsibility because the whole country is with us. We are calm because we know that we will leave the last drop of sweat on the field to change the situation. I want people to see what kind of group this is, what it has given and what it can still provide. And they believe in us, for a long time everything was perfect and simple (a streak of 36 games without defeat), but now we need everyone. We can lose, but we have to keep working and come back. That’s how I was as a player,” Scaloni said.
He was asked to comment on the situation surrounding Argentina’s best soccer player, Lionel Messi.
“Physically, he is fine, mentally as well, there is no reason to worry. It’s normal to be nervous at the start of the World Cup, it’s logical. And Argentina is different from many national teams. Without disrespecting others, it’s not the same to start the World Cup in Argentina’s jersey than in another jersey,” said Scaloni.
The match between Argentina and Mexico will be played tomorrow at 20:00.
