Luka Modric, captain of the Croatian national football team, pointed out that the team did not play up to par.
However, Luka is overjoyed about reaching the quarterfinals.
“It seems we can’t do without the drama. We are overjoyed to be in the quarterfinals, it was a very difficult game against a very unpleasant team that beat Germany and Spain. We didn’t play at the level we know, but we still created two or three good chances in the first half, and if we had taken the lead first, maybe the game would have gone in a better direction for us,” said Modric.
Goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic saved three penalties and is one of the most deserving that Croatia qualified for the quarterfinals of the World Cup for the third time.
“We showed character and came back from a deficit and reached the penalty shootout in which ‘Livi’ was a miracle. All credit to him, he took us to the quarterfinals. “We entered the match quite well, at the end of the half we were not quite right, but for the second half we agreed to change the way we played and try to take center shots”, said Modric.
Croatia will play against Brazil in the quarterfinals.
