A group of 10 players from the Marsa Sports Club Squash & Pickleball Section travelled to Marseille at the end of June to compete in the French Squash Masters, which took place between 26 and 28 June.
The Maltese contingent consisted of Roberto Bugeja, Jonathan Calleja, James Falzon, Adrian Farrugia, Mark Formosa, Gary Guinness, Oliver Raine, Robert Sultana, Brian Tonna and Mark Zammit.
The French Squash Masters is part of the European Squash Masters Circuit, a series of tournaments staged across the continent for players aged 35 and above. For the majority of the Marsa squad, the event marked their first opportunity to compete in a European Masters competition outside Malta.
The tournament attracted players from several countries, providing the club’s representatives with valuable international experience and the chance to measure themselves against high-quality opposition while experiencing the distinctive atmosphere of the Masters circuit.
Beyond the competitive action, the visit also offered the team an opportunity to strengthen friendships, support one another throughout the tournament, discover the city of Marseille and enjoy time together away from the court.
The club congratulated all those who represented Marsa Sports Club and acknowledged the efforts of the Squash & Pickleball Section in organising the trip.
Following the success of the experience, attention has already turned to the possibility of competing in another overseas Masters event, with the Italian Masters in September emerging as the leading option.
