The Maltese Olympic Committee today announced that the athletes who will carry the Maltese flag at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics are swimmer Sasha Gatt and Trap shooter Gianluca Chetcuti.
In a media address, Paul Sultana, the Chief de Mission of the Maltese contingent in Paris, stated that the five Maltese athletes are well-prepared and aim to achieve the best possible results without any pressure, to honour our country.
Also addressing the media were Sports Director Charlene Attard, Secretary General of the Maltese Olympic Committee Kevin Azzopardi, and President Julian Pace Bonello.
Dr Lucienne Attard highlighted that the physical condition of the Maltese athletes is excellent and explained that they are currently receiving optimal support ahead of their respective competitions.
Besides Sasha Gatt and Gianluca Chetcuti, the five Maltese athletes competing in the Paris Olympics include sprinter Beppe Grillo, judoka Katryna Esposito, and swimmer Kyle Micallef. Kyle, who is training abroad, will join the Maltese contingent on the eve of their departure, scheduled for 25th July, a day before the opening ceremony.
The Paris 2024 Olympics will continue until Sunday, 11 August.
