The French Interior Minister, Gerald Darminin, has announced that the police have interrogated a man due to a threat against the Paris 2024 torch relay as it passed through Bordeaux on Thursday. According to AFP, investigators discovered posts referencing a mass killing in California in 2014.
Security has become a major concern for the organizers of the Summer Olympic Games, with tight measures in place to prevent any potential attacks. The focus is particularly on the torch as it makes its way towards Paris, with only 63 days remaining until the opening ceremony on the Seine River. This high-risk situation requires maximum effort and attention from all involved authorities.
In anticipation of a possible attack on Thursday, local authorities arrested a 26-year-old man prior to the relay procession in Bordeaux. “An individual who planned a violent act during the Olympic torch relay in Bordeaux has been questioned,” stated Darminin on X, the former Twitter.
Following alerts from France’s online extremism monitoring body regarding posts related to a 2014 mass killing in California, an investigation was launched into the individual identified as Alex G. The man was apprehended on Tuesday and appeared before an investigative magistrate.
