Gianluca Chetcuti is looking forward to Olympic Challenge

Malta’s top shooter Gianluca Chetcuti is ready for the Paris 2024 Olympic Challenge which starts in a few days. Chetcuti said that he had been firing a gun ever since he was 10 years old and his dream was always to participate in the Olympics.

“I have been firing ever since I was 10 years old, so for the past ten years. As I’m talking to you, I really can’t believe that I’m going to Paris but here I am”.

Chetcuti said that he was just back from 2 weeks of intensive training but this has been ongoing for the past two years as activity was stepped up

The sport of clay pigeon shooting requires daily practise and Chetcuti revealed the staggering amounts of shooting that is required daily.

“We attempt to conduct 10 to 25 rounds of shooting daily so with each round of 25 shots, thsi means between 250 and 600 rounds a day”

Chetcuti also revealed his surprise at being appointed one of the flag bearers for the Maltese contingent and expressed his pride for such a prestigious experience.

Chetcuti, who will be making his first appearance at the Olympics, will represent Malta in the Trap competition on July 29.

He began his international career in 2014, winning a Junior bronze medal in Double Trap at the Italian Nations Cup.

Chetcuti managed to win the gold medal at the 2017 Games of the Small States of Europe and took bronze at the European Championships.

In 2019, he switched to trap and set a new Maltese record at the 2023 European Games.
