Team Malta sees action across rowing, sailing and athletics

Team Malta was in action on the water and on the track on Monday, with athletes competing in rowing, sailing and athletics at the Mediterranean Games.

The day started with Mark Schembri competing in the Men’s Single Sculls Heat 1. He recorded a time of 8:33.29.

In sailing, two more races were completed in both ILCA classes. Katrina Micallef is currently 12th in the ILCA 6, with Mia Busuttil in 16th. In the ILCA 7, Matthew Flores sits in 15th place, while Benjamin Vassallo is 17th.

The shifty and unstable wind made conditions difficult, particularly in the compact and highly competitive fleets where tactics played an important role. With three races still remaining, there is still plenty to play for.

In athletics, Matthew Galea Soler competed in Heat 2 of the men’s 400m. He made a fast start over the opening 200m before finishing strongly in 47.18 seconds, his second-fastest time of the season.
