Malta’s leading cross-country riders will compete for national honours on Sunday, 19 July, when the Cisk 0.0 XCO National Championship brings the domestic mountain-bike season to its headline event.
The Malta Mountain Bike Association lists the championship from 07:30 to 11:30. The event follows three rounds of the 2026 cross-country series, which opened at Miżieb in March, moved to Majjistral Park in May and returned to Miżieb for the third round later that month.
One race for the national jersey
Unlike a series decided over several rounds, the national championship places the title on the outcome of a single race. Riders must balance aggression with control across a course that is expected to test climbing, technical handling and decision-making under pressure.
The championship also gives competitors from different age groups and categories the opportunity to end the summer programme with a major domestic result. With no points cushion to protect and little margin for a mechanical issue or mistake, the format tends to reward riders who can combine speed with consistency from the opening lap.

Final test after a three-round series
This year’s championship arrives after a varied build-up. Miżieb’s woodland terrain featured twice in the series, while the Majjistral Park round offered a different test and helped shape riders’ preparation for the national event.
The race is also another opportunity for Malta’s mountain-bike community to showcase a discipline that has produced increasingly visible performances at home and abroad. Several Maltese riders have taken part in demanding international stage races in recent seasons, while the national calendar continues to offer a pathway for younger and developing competitors.
