The Federation of Underwater Activities of Malta has announced that, for the second year in a row, Malta will host the Danish National Freediving Championship along with the Malta Freediving Open. These events will take place in Gozo from 18th to 22nd August 2025.
The competition schedule is as follows:
18th August – Constant Weight (CWT)
In this event, athletes dive to a declared depth and return using fins, without changing their weight or pulling on the rope. It is held in open water.
19th August – Constant Weight with Bifins (CWT-BF)
Similar to CWT, but athletes must use bifins (two separate fins). They cannot pull on the rope and must keep the same weight throughout the dive. This also takes place in open water.
21st August – Constant Weight No Fins (CNF)
Divers go down and back up without using fins or pulling on the rope. Their weight must remain the same. This event is also held in open water.
22nd August – Free Immersion (FIM)
In this discipline, divers pull themselves down and up along a rope, without using fins. It is held in open water, either in the sea or freshwater.
Transport Malta has issued Local Notice to Mariners RS No. 135 of 2025 for all sea vessels in the area.
