Malta shines at 2025 European Company Sport Games in Calvia, Mallorca

The Malta Employees Sport Association (MESA) proudly represented Malta at the 2025 European Company Sport Games held in Calvia, Mallorca from 25 to 29 June. This was MESA’s 10th year taking part in the event, which brings together working professionals from across Europe to compete in sport.

This year, the Maltese delegation included nearly 100 athletes and officials, competing in five different sports. Together, they won an impressive 18 medals, showcasing Malta’s strong spirit and sporting talent.

Athletes came from a range of local companies and public bodies, joining hundreds of employees from other European nations. Notable achievements included:

  • Bank of Valletta (BoV) won silver in bowling (Category A) thanks to Ernest Agius, Alan Attard, Gordon Genovese, and Nicholas Muscat. BoV also took home silver in women’s beach volleyball through Alison Borg and Martha Fenech.
  • Malta International Airport (MIA) earned silver in bowling (Category B) with players Rene Bartolo, Simon Mizzi, Luke Mercieca, and Aaron Belli.

In athletics and road races, Maltese runners delivered outstanding performances:

  • Aaron Mifsud (APS Bank) won four gold medals (5000m, 1500m, 800m, 10K Open City Run – Cat. C) and a silver in the 400m.
  • Darren Agius (APS Bank) earned two silvers in the 5000m and 10K Open City Run.
  • David Bezzina (Malta Police Force) claimed two bronzes in the 200m and 400m (Cat. C).
  • Gerald Grech (University of Malta) won one gold in the 5K Open City Run (Cat. C) and two silvers in the 1500m and Overall 5K.
  • Peter Azzopardi earned two golds in the 800m and 5K (Cat. E).
  • Caroline Ciappara secured silver in the 5K (Cat. C).

In the 5-a-side football tournament, five Maltese teams from the Correctional Services Agency (CSA), Transport Malta, Wasteserv, St Vincent de Paul Residence (SVPR), and the Housing Authority took part. Four teams reached the Round of 16, with CSA finishing 4th overall.

Tennis also saw strong Maltese participation, with 13 players from Rinella Tennis Club competing in multiple categories.

While in Mallorca, MESA officials attended the European Federation for Company Sport’s Executive Meeting and General Assembly. During the session, plans were shared for the 2026 World Company Sport Games, set to take place in Frederikshavn, Denmark from 10–14 June.

MESA extends its congratulations to all Maltese participants and medal winners. Their hard work and dedication brought pride to Malta on the international company sports stage.
