Kicking things off this season for the Malta BOV ePremier League is a thrilling Group Stage, starting with Group A.
Featuring eight of the best EA SPORTS FC players this island has to offer, only the top 4 are moving on to the Knockout Stage.
In the past few seasons, the Malta BOV ePremier League featured a Group Stage with three groups, featuring its advantages and disadvantages.
For the MEPL 2024 season, we’re going for a Group Stage with two separate competitions of seven teams each, which should allow for more balanced groups with more matches to look forward to.
Facing one another on 1 leg, points are earned as per traditional football rules:
With several tiebreaker criteria to consider, only the top 4 teams from each Group earn a spot in the Playoffs.
Here’s a look at the competitors featuring in Group A:
- Ħamrun Spartans – Shaun “Brandsha” Galea
- Balzan FC – Gianluca “Turbulense” Sant
- Birkirkara FC – Jose ” RapidBunny” Martin Sanchez
- Valletta FC – Shaun “Vli” Dimech
- Santa Lucia FC – Owen “Muwx_19” Tanti
- Gzira United – Dale “Bonell” Bonello
- Sirens FC – Wayne “Woncu” Seracino.
Considering that all 7 competitors are facing one another, there are over 20 matches to look forward to over several matchdays.
Representing Hamrun Spartans for the fourth time, Shaun Brandsha is the returning MEPL Champion from the 2023 season. All eyes are on him to see if he can defend his throne.
As one of the most seasoned competitors in the history of the MEPL, Gianluca “Turbulense” Sant is arguably considered a favorite.
Contenders are players who have a moderate amount of experience, and should challenge to fight for the fourth seed:
- Valletta FC – Shaun “Vli” Dimech
- Gzira United – Dale “Bonell” Bonello
Returning under the banner of Valletta FC, Shaun “Vli” Dimech has always been a consistent competitor since 2019, placing 5-8th twice in the Main Competition.
Also competing for a while, since 2020, Dale “Bonell” Bonello is enjoying his first bout of Main Competition matches after trying for so very long.
The Underdogs are rather exciting – rookies Wayne “Woncu” Seracino representing Sirens and Owen “Muwx_19” Tanti on behalf of Santa Lucia both possess a lot of talent that ultimately could turn the competition on its head.
