The Campus Hub in Imsida buzzed with excitement this past weekend as the Jungle Box Warehouse, in collaboration with Garmin Malta, hosted the latest edition of the Hyrox Challenge. Attracting 857 athletes from various backgrounds, the event showcased high-intensity endurance heats, including Men’s and Women’s Doubles, Singles, and Relay races. As competitors tested their limits, the Challenge also served a significant purpose, channeling the spirit of fitness into a cause that truly matters.
One of the most thrilling moments of the day occurred in the Men’s Doubles category, where the top two teams were separated by a mere five seconds. The Titans, featuring Ryan Farrugia and Luke Pace, claimed first place with a time of 56:13, just ahead of The Clubduo, comprised of Adrian Zahra and Marlon Briffa, who finished in 56:18. Performix, represented by Jimmy Dhillon and Cleven Damato, secured third place with a respectable finish of 58:19. This nail-biting conclusion had spectators on the edge of their seats, highlighting the intense competition throughout the day.
Two athletes, Dzintra Grech and Katrina Cuschieri, left a lasting impression on the event with their dual victories across multiple heats. Competing as Last Minute Decision in the Women’s Doubles, they finished first with a time of 57:51. Grech showcased her versatility once again in the Mixed Doubles, teaming up with Chris Grech of Hunting Mcintyre to secure another first-place finish at 1:00:16. Meanwhile, Katrina Cuschieri exhibited her individual strength by finishing second in the Singles Women category with a time of 1:09:08. Their remarkable performances were a highlight of the day, reflecting both athletic skill and the competitive spirit of the Hyrox Challenge.
The event featured impressive showings across all categories. In the Mixed Doubles, Hunting Mcintyre emerged victorious, while Mark & Michelle and Pineapple Ice Lollie finished in second and third place, respectively. Rosalie Borg Cauchiled led the Singles Women category with an impressive time of 1:07:04, while Keith Falzon claimed the Singles Men title with a time of 1:01:41, setting a high standard for his competitors.
Teamwork shone brightly in the Relay events, where 4EVER WARRIORS triumphed in the Male Relay, ISSA NARAW took the top spot in the Female Relay, and THE JUNGLE TROUBLE MAKERS secured first place in the Mixed Relay.
Beyond the fierce competition, the Hyrox Challenge successfully made a positive impact on the community, raising €35,000 for a hospice charity. These funds will significantly support hospice care services, providing comfort and assistance to those in need.
The Hyrox Challenge at the Campus Hub is scheduled to return in April, offering another opportunity to celebrate fitness, push limits, and support a worthy cause.
