The European Union of Trotting is organising its annual European Championship for Apprentice Drivers, which this year will take place in Spain, at the Manacor and Son Pardo racetracks on the Balearic island of Mallorca.
Drivers from 12 European countries are arriving in Palma to take part in this two-day event, which will see each driver compete in four races. The races will be held on Saturday 18th October and Sunday 19th October.
Malta will be represented by Denilson Cortis, who was selected by the Malta Racing Club to compete in this international event.
Malta returned to this championship in 2023, when it was held in Malta. On that occasion, Jean Claude Pace achieved an impressive victory, winning the championship on home soil. Last year’s Maltese representative, Nelson Azzopardi, had a disappointing result, but this year there are high hopes for a good performance from Denilson Cortis.

Denilson Cortis is a young driver who began racing in 2019. So far, he has taken part in 248 races, with 16 wins and around 40 other podium finishes.
This year’s participants are:
- Linus Lannoo – Belgium
- Louis Goetz – France
- Lukas Strobl – Germany
- Lee Wakefield – Great Britain
- Tamás Dukai – Hungary
- Robbie Maguire – Ireland
- Santo Ollio – Italy
- Denilson Cortis – Malta
- Zoë Wester – Netherlands
- Marcus Totland Aadland – Norway
- Catalina Fuster Servera – Spain
- Victor S. Sundgren – Sweden
