Maltese amateur driver Carl Caruana will represent Malta this weekend at the St Michel Amateur Challenge, which will be held at Mikkeli Racetrack in Finland.
Caruana travelled to Finland on Friday, where he will compete alongside 11 amateur drivers representing different European countries. The race is organised by the European Trotting Amateur Drivers Federation (FEGAT) together with Mikkeli Racetrack and forms part of Finland’s biggest harness racing festival.
The event includes several international races and concludes with the prestigious Group 1 St Michel Race, one of Finland’s most important harness racing events, attracting top horses, drivers and trainers from across Europe.
The Malta Racing Club selected Caruana following his long and successful career in the sport. He made his official debut in November 2003 with Clack de Tupot and has since competed in almost 2,000 races, recording 139 victories.
For Saturday’s St Michel Amateur Challenge, Caruana has been drawn with horse number two, To Happen. The race will be run over 1,609 metres using the autostart system and is scheduled to begin at around 1:13pm Malta time.
The Malta Racing Club also thanked EquestriMalta for its financial support, which has made Caruana’s participation possible. The Club said competing in international events such as this gives Maltese drivers valuable experience while continuing to raise Malta’s profile within the European harness racing community.
