GREE Żurrieq Wolves Hotsticks got off to a great start in the Hockey Challenge Cup with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Floriana Young Stars.
As expected between these two sides, it was a close and competitive match, with the result uncertain right up until the final whistle.
Floriana took an early lead, but couldn’t hold on to it. Żurrieq bounced back strongly, scoring three goals to turn the game around. Floriana managed to pull one back late on, but it wasn’t enough to get a draw.
Alessandro Amore scored twice for Żurrieq, and Gary Bonnici, a promising young player, added another. Karl Chircop scored both goals for Floriana.
Match officials were Dario Cacopardo and Keith Calleja.
