Malta women's beach handball team gain valuable experience at EBT Lupa Beach Cup

The Malta Women’s Beach Handball National Team returned from Budapest after taking part in the EBT Lupa Beach Cup, held at Lake Lupa Premium Beach in Budakalász, Hungary.

The tournament was part of the European Beach Handball Tour (EBT), one of Europe’s leading beach handball competitions, and also counted as the third qualifying weekend of the Hungarian National Beach Handball Championship. Teams from across Europe competed in both the men’s and women’s events.

Although Malta did not record any victories, the team produced several competitive performances against higher-ranked opponents, with a number of matches decided by narrow margins.

Head coach Daniel Tanti Farrugia was pleased with the team’s display despite the results.

“The results were not what we hoped for, but the performances were very encouraging. The players showed they can compete against experienced European teams. Playing at this level is important as we continue preparing for the Mediterranean Beach Games,” he said.

Malta Handball Association President Vladimiro Comodini said the tournament formed an important part of the association’s long-term plans.

“Competing in events like the EBT Lupa Beach Cup is an important step in the development of our women’s programme. Our goal is to be well prepared for next year’s Mediterranean Beach Games, and tournaments like this help us move closer to that objective. I am proud of the commitment shown by the team,” he said.

The Malta Women’s Beach Handball National Team will continue its international preparations over the coming months ahead of the Mediterranean Beach Games.
