Malta to host UIAA 2024 General Assembly

Malta’s national climbing organization, ClimbMT (formerly known as the Malta Climbing Club), is set to welcome delegates for the UIAA 2024 General Assembly on November 8-9. This significant event will gather key representatives from climbing and mountaineering federations worldwide to discuss governance, climate action, sustainability, and global safety standards. This marks the second time ClimbMT has hosted UIAA federation meetings; the first was in 2019 when the management board and various commissions convened successfully in Malta.

The General Assembly not only elevates Malta’s presence in the global climbing community but also aligns with the country’s commitment to sustainability. Over 125 delegates from around 50 countries are expected to attend.

Climbers’ Gathering and Public Events

In addition to the assembly, ClimbMT will organize a climbers’ gathering on Sunday, November 10. This event will invite the Maltese climbing community to connect with international delegates and enjoy climbing at several scenic locations in Gozo, including Mġarr ix-Xini, Wied il-Mielaħ, Forna Point, and Dwejra.

Skills Advancement and Safety Training

On November 11, ClimbMT will host a Climbing Skills Seminar focused on multipitch climbing, led by members of the UIAA Training Commission. This seminar will equip climbing instructors with essential skills and insights for developing Malta’s multipitch climbing program. Following this, the UIAA Training and Safety Commissions will meet in Malta on November 12-13 to advance their work on international climbing standards and educational resources.

Through the assembly and community events, ClimbMT aims to strengthen connections between local and international climbers, reinforcing Malta’s role in the climbing and mountaineering community.
