KTM’s Pedro Acosta claimed pole position at the Catalan Grand Prix on Saturday, his first since the Japanese Grand Prix back in 2024, ending a wait of 588 days.
The 21 year old Spaniard delighted the home crowd with a flying lap and will be joined on the front row by Franco Morbidelli and Alex Marquez.
It was a very different story for Aprilia, who came into the weekend on the back of a podium sweep at the French Grand Prix. Both of their title contenders, Jorge Martin and championship leader Marco Bezzecchi, crashed out during qualifying.
Martin will start ninth, while Bezzecchi who leads the championship by just one point will start from 12th. Two time champion Francesco Bagnaia also had a tough session and will line up 13th.
Reigning champion Marc Marquez is sitting out the race altogether after having surgery following his crash in Le Mans.
