Martin and Di Giannantonio sidelined by injuries after Sepang MotoGP tests

The 2025 MotoGP season has started on a difficult note for reigning world champion Jorge Martin and Aprilia. During the first day of official testing at the Sepang circuit, the Spanish rider experienced a heavy fall at Turn 2, resulting in injuries to his left foot and right hand. Martin was immediately taken to the medical centre for initial examinations and was later transferred to Nilai Hospital, located 6 kilometres from the circuit, for further assessment.

Medical tests confirmed a fracture of the fifth metacarpal in his right hand and multiple fractures to the third, fourth, and fifth metatarsal bones in his left foot. The Spanish rider will remain under observation overnight before returning to Europe on Thursday to undergo surgery.

“I’ll Come Back Stronger”

“This isn’t the best way to start the 2025 season! But ‘Martinator’ will always come back stronger,” Martin reassured his fans in an Instagram post following the incident. Riding his new Aprilia during the Sepang tests, Martin expressed optimism despite the setback, as he prepares to recover and return to full fitness after surgery.

Di Giannantonio Also Set for Surgery

Meanwhile, Fabio Di Giannantonio of the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team also sustained injuries during the Sepang tests. The Italian rider fractured his left collarbone following a crash at Turn 5. He will return to Italy tonight to undergo surgery.

Both riders now face the challenge of recovery as the 2025 season unfolds, with fans eagerly awaiting their return to the track.
