Maltese waterpolo player Jake Muscat is on the brink of finalising a move to Sirens ASC, with negotiations reported to be in their final stages. According to sources close to the matter, an agreement between Muscat’s current club, Neptunes WPSC, and Sirens ASC has already been reached, with only final personal terms left to be confirmed between the player and Sirens.
Muscat, who is currently playing professionally in Italy with Telimar Palermo, has been the subject of increasing interest both locally and abroad. Following Swim Up’s earlier report this week, it has emerged that another local club has made a late attempt to lure Muscat, although Sirens ASC remains the frontrunner to secure his signature.
A few weeks ago, Neptunes and Muscat mutually agreed to part ways, paving the way for the 23-year-old to explore new opportunities. This decision opened the door for formal negotiations with other clubs, with Sirens quickly moving to the top of the list.
As part of the proposed deal, Sirens ASC are expected to transfer one of their players to Neptunes WPSC and pay a portion of Muscat’s parameter clause—an arrangement that reportedly facilitated the agreement between the two clubs.
While the domestic transfer appears nearly complete, Muscat is also evaluating his long-term professional options abroad. With interest mounting from several foreign clubs, a decision regarding his future in international waters is expected in the coming weeks.
If the deal goes through, Muscat’s move to Sirens would mark a significant shift in the local waterpolo scene and provide a major boost to Sirens ahead of the upcoming season.
