Brave Malta succumb to France in astonishing comeback to end in 14th place in European water polo U19 championships

Malta lost 8-9 to France in a thrilling encounter for 13th place but the U19 boys ended the tournament with their heads held up high. The result means that Malta ended up in 14th place in the U19 water polo European Championships held in Burgas, Bulgaria, definitely no mean feat.

France were leading 8-3 at the end of the second session but an incredible comeback by Malta saw the final score end up 8-9. Malta also missed a penalty and had a number of man up situations in which they were unlucky. Jayden Cutajar also ended fouled out but Alec Fenech and others rose to the occasion with a superb performance.

Malta’s goals were as follows: Alec Fenech: 4 Jayden Cutajar: 2, Jake Cachia: 2
