World Record Swimmer Neil Agius begins Day 3 of seven marathons in 7 Days around Malta’s Island of Gozo

Gozo, Malta, Tuesday, 2 September 2025: Before first light, Neil Agius arrived calm and grounded for Day 3 of The Gozo 7. He shared a few minutes on shore with the crew and community, coffee in hand, settling into a quiet focus. Those small moments matter. They are a reset before the sea. “His spirit this morning was strong and centered,” said a member of the shore team. “That short window with everyone on land gave him energy.”

Out on the water, Mother Nature has been less gentle. Winds and cross-currents built through the morning and a steady swell has made every metre hard won. Neil’s pace is solid, his stroke consistent and his breathing steady, yet the waves are slowing forward progress. He passed the halfway mark at 4:00 p.m. We are beginning to see the cumulative challenge reflected in his pace, with some segments stretching longer as the winds and swell build. Crew in the support boats played music, are drumming and singing, to keep morale and motivation high.
