Young Maltese athletes shine in Lithuania

Three young Maltese athletes represented Malta at a development camp in Lithuania, which also included participation in the Junior Cup.

Aiden Muscat made history by becoming the first Maltese athlete to qualify from the semi-final, finishing 10th out of 23 athletes and recording the fastest overall T1 time.

The men’s final and women’s races were later cancelled because of adverse weather conditions, but the Maltese athletes returned to competition the following day at the Lithuanian Super Sprint Cup, where they competed alongside around 100 athletes.

Muscat and Zia Fujii both finished in second place, while Katie Anne Vella Woods placed fifth. The results gave the group another valuable international test as they continued their development.

The performances followed a busy period for Malta’s youth triathlon programme, after Maltese youngsters had recently gained further experience at a European Development Camp.
