The second event of the Triathlon Series 2026, organised by Agones SFC in collaboration with the Malta Triathlon Federation, took place at Salini and featured the National Middle Distance Championships together with sprint distance races.
The event attracted elite athletes, age group competitors and newcomers across multiple race formats as competitors battled for national titles and Triathlete of the Year points.
The National Middle Distance Championship followed a non drafting format consisting of a 1.5 kilometre swim, 60 kilometre bike segment and 15 kilometre run.
Keith Galea secured victory in the men’s middle distance race and claimed the National Middle Distance Championship title with a winning time of 2:51:22.
In the women’s race, Krista Kuusijärvi crossed the line first in 3:10:15, while Deborah Schembri secured the National Middle Distance Championship title.
The sprint distance event also produced notable performances, with Kai Azzopardi setting a new sprint course record after finishing in 56:50.
Zija Fujii won the women’s sprint race following a strong overall performance throughout the event.

Organisers highlighted the growing participation levels and competitive depth within Maltese triathlon, with the Salini course once again providing a challenging test across both championship and sprint formats.
The Triathlon Series 2026 will continue with further races later this season as athletes compete for overall series standings and upcoming National Standard and Super Sprint Championship titles.
