Young Maltese sailors set to compete in the 2024 RS Feva World Championship in Bruinisse, Netherlands

The picturesque coastal town of Bruinisse, Netherlands, is set to host the highly anticipated 2024 RS Feva World Championship. This prestigious event will take place from July 26th to August 1st, 2024, and is expected to
break last year’s record of 211 entries. Known for its focus on fun and friendly competition, the championship promises an exciting atmosphere both on and off the water.

Maltese Team Line-Up

Representing Malta are eight talented young sailors, ages 13 to 16, who will be competing with zeal and determination:

● Andre Fenech & Nathan Buttigieg Gili from the Birzebbuga Sailing Club
● Jacob Carl Delia & Lily Ellul from the Royal Malta Yacht Club
● Michaela Vertsoni Pipi & Philippa Bartolo Parnis from the Royal Malta Yacht Club
● Naeema Vella & Luigi Said from the Birzebbuga Sailing Club

The Birzebbuga Sailing Club (BSC) team has also benefited from coaching by Anna Basalkina, with Dimitrios Pipi RMYC coach has taken over the final preparations for the World Championship. Dimitrios Pipi will accompany the kids in Bruinisse and will provide on and off the
water support and guidance during the competition.

Intensive Training and Preparation
The team’s preparation has been extensive and demanding, with regular training sessions at their respective clubs. Coach Dimitrios Pipi has also organised two intensive weekend camps, featuring double daily sessions and thorough debriefs. During these debriefs, the sailors review videos of their performances to identify strengths and areas for improvement, fostering a culture of continuous learning and enhancement.

Despite the rigorous training schedule, these young sailors have managed to balance their academic commitments, recently completing their school exams and, for some, their O level sessions. All students who sat for their O Levels have successfully passed. The dedication and resilience of all sailors is commendable.

Support

The Birzebbuga Sailing Club has generously provided the facilities for the training camp, while the Royal Malta Yacht Club has supported the coaching efforts.

Follow and Support the Team
The public can show their support and follow the team’s journey on the respective club pages – BSC Feva team & the RMYC Feva Team. Regular updates, photos, and videos will be posted to keep everyone engaged with the progress of these exceptional sailors.
