The government has confirmed that waste illegally dumped at the Ħal Far racetrack site has been cleared as a preliminary effort towards establishing the National Centre for Motorsport which has now been promised for years.
The waste’s removal was essential to facilitate necessary area surveys ahead of project initiation.
From November to 4 April, approximately 24,875 tonnes of construction waste were disposed of across 995 trips. The Cleaning and Maintenance Division executed this task with its employees.
The Malta Motorsport Federation will take ownership of the now SportMalta-managed site to build the complex.
The government revealed that the centre’s initial phase intends to construct a drag racing track and several support facilities.
The project’s objective is to create a drag racing track that meets the certification standards of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), thereby enabling it to host global events.
