This week, from Monday 13th to Sunday 19th, is an important time for the Malta Motorsport Federation and its key members. It is a busy week, with officials from the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and the Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI) visiting Malta to offer their expertise in training and development, which will help shape the future of motorsport in Malta.
One of the main tasks this week is to update and renew the safety plans for the National Hillclimb Championship. This shows our ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety of all participants.
Giuseppe Nunzinate, an ACI scrutineer, is leading a Scrutineering course for karting scrutineers.
Gianluca Marotta, Alessandro Ferrari, and Valerio Brizolari, who are Race Director and Steward for ACI and FIA, are running a course for Stewards, Clerks of the Course, and Race Directors, both current and future candidates, to help them develop the necessary skills and knowledge.
Dr Francesco Petrucci and Dr Max Girgenti, both ACI and FIA medical staff, will train local doctors in motorsport medical management.
From Friday 17th to Sunday 19th, two FIA-certified local stewards, along with others in training, will take part in a three-day course, followed by exams on Sunday. They will receive qualifications in various roles, including Clerk of the Course Circuit, Clerk of the Course Hillclimb, Race Director Circuit, Race Director Hillclimb, Race Director Karting, and Stewards at different levels.
Looking ahead, phase 2 of the project offers exciting opportunities. The new officials will have the chance to attend overseas events alongside ACI and FIA officials, taking on active roles at international events. This will help them improve their skills and assist at motorsport events abroad.
This important project, which involves around 40 people, ensures that all operational staff are ready to work at the FIA Homologated Facilities currently under construction, as well as other new facilities planned, which are partly funded by the FIA and SportMalta.
