8 Countries, represented by 336 Judoka from 55 Clubs, competed at the Lendave Tournament in Slovenia. The Maltese delegation consisted of athletes from 3 age categories: Cadets Miguel Mintoff (-55kgs), Samy Ibnass (-66kgs) and Antonio Overend (-66kgs); U14 Andreas Cachia Difesa(-34kgs); Sophia Felice (-40kgs) and Mattea Mintoff (-44kgs); and U12 Aleksander Sitek (-38kgs).
Coach Francesco Aiello accompanied them. The team collected one silver medal (Sophia Felice), three bronze medals (Migue Minfoff, Antonio Overend, and Mattea Mintoff), one 5th place (Andreas Cachia Difesa, one 7th place (Alexander Sitek) and one 9th place (Samy Ibnass).
The judoka completed 20 actions, resulting in scores, and won 14 contests.
The investment in the Judo youth team is already bringing results. These trips would not have been possible without the support given by the families of these young judoka and the Maltese Olympic Committee and Sportmalta.
