The Malta Judo Federation proudly celebrates a landmark achievement as Louisa Agius Galea has been elected to the Executive Committee of the International Judo Federation (IJF) for the 2025–2029 term. Her election was confirmed during the IJF Ordinary Congress held on 11 June in Budapest, Hungary, marking a significant moment for both her personal career and the future of Maltese judo on the international stage.
Louisa has been appointed Logistics Director of the IJF, a key executive role within the global governing body of judo. Known for her meticulous attention to detail and strong organisational acumen, Louisa has played an essential part in the smooth execution of judo events worldwide. Her election signals the international community’s confidence in her leadership and capacity to contribute meaningfully to the sport’s strategic and operational direction.
This appointment coincides with the re-election of Mr. Marius Vizer as IJF President for a historic sixth term, ensuring continuity and renewed vision for the sport’s global growth.
Louisa’s election represents a historic first for Malta, placing a dedicated Maltese official in the heart of international judo governance. She brings to the IJF not only professional expertise but also a passion for the sport that has defined her lifelong involvement in judo.
At home, Louisa serves as General Secretary of the Malta Judo Federation, where she also leads on event coordination, public relations, and sometimes steps onto the mat herself as a referee. Her contributions have been pivotal in athlete development, federation strategy, and in raising Malta’s profile in the international judo community.
“Louisa’s presence on the IJF Executive is not only a personal triumph but a historic achievement for Malta,” said Envic Galea, President of the Malta Judo Federation and proud father. “Her election brings credibility, competence, and a fresh voice to the global judo family. I’ve watched her grow from a passionate volunteer to a respected international leader, and I couldn’t be prouder—both as a federation president and as a father.”
The 2025 IJF Congress, held at Budapest’s iconic Várkert Bazár, brought together delegates from across the world to shape the strategic path of international judo. With Louisa now part of the IJF Executive Committee, Malta has a stronger voice in that global conversation—one that advocates for inclusion, excellence, innovation, and the sustainable growth of the sport.
Her election is not only a vote of confidence in her capabilities, but also a recognition of Malta’s growing influence and commitment to the values of international sport.
As the IJF enters a new chapter, Louisa Agius Galea’s role promises to bring fresh perspective and operational excellence to judo’s global agenda. It is a testament to what dedication, vision, and passion can achieve—both for an individual and for a nation.
Malta stands proud as one of its own helps shape the future of judo at the highest level.
