Success for GymStars Gymnastics during the International competition in Latvia

GymStars Gymnastics Club proudly represented Malta as they competed against formidable teams from various countries including Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Ukraine, Croatia, Belgium, Uzbekistan, and the host nation, Latvia.

Despite stiff competition from 18 teams, GymStars Malta showcased exceptional talent and determination, securing an impressive 2nd Place overall. This success is testament to the hard work and dedication of our gymnasts and coaching staff.

I am delighted to announce that four of our gymnasts, Phoebe Fenech, Sophie St John, Lyana Curmi Inguanez, and Yelena Zahra, exhibited outstanding performances throughout the competition. Sophie St John and Lyana Curmi Inguanez clinched first and second place overall medals respectively. Phoebe Fenech, competing as a senior, achieved an impressive 4th place overall, while Yelena Zahra, in her first competition at this level, secured 12th place.

Furthermore, three of our gymnasts qualified for the finals on all apparatus, with Sophie St John winning an incredible 3 gold and 1 bronze medals, and Lyana Curmi Inguanez adding 2 silver medals to our tally. In total, GymStars Malta brought home 11 medals and 3 cups from the competition.

Adding to our achievements, Sophie St John was honored with the People’s Sport Award on Saturday night, despite being in Latvia. Her father graciously accepted the award on her behalf, further highlighting the recognition of our club’s excellence.

I would like to extend my gratitude to the delegation led by our club president, Alexandra Borg, and our head coach, Nataliya Berehova, for their exceptional leadership and guidance.

As we celebrate this success, our gymnasts are now focusing on preparing for the upcoming World Cup and European Championships, where we aim to continue our winning streak and make Malta proud on the international stage.
