National Cycling Road Race Champions 2024 - Aidan Buttigieg successfully defends the title, Jessica Pratt champion for the first time

Aidan Buttigieg of the Gozian D Sports Lab club and Jessica Pratt of Team Greens are the National Road Race champions for this year 2024 organized by the Maltese Cycling Federation.

For Aidan Buttigieg, this was the second title in his career where he successfully defended winning this Road Race Championship. This year he finished first in the Elite Category standings when he achieved the maximum of 600 points with three victories. In second place ranked with a total of 485 points Pierre Borg of Mosta CC, followed in third position by Etienne Bonello of Team Greens with 460 points.

Jessica Pratt of Team Greens won this Women’s title for the first time in her career when she successfully debuted where she achieved also a maximum total of 600 points. Her teammates from Team Greens, Diana Muscat (525 points) and Michelle Vella Wood (435 points) finished behind her respectively.

Jacob Schembri of Mosta CC became the National Champion of the under-23 category when he finished first with 575 points. Clyve Chetcuti of Mosta CC ranked second with 485 points, while Luke Borg of The Cyclist-Agones finished third with a total of 375 points.

Mark Zammit of Mosta CC finished as the National champion in the Masters 40+, with a maximum of 600 points. David Cushing of B’Kara St Joseph (375 points) and James Mifsud of Team Greens (295 points) finished respectively behind him. Joseph Caruana of Team Greens finished as the National champion in the Masters 50+ with 510 points, followed by Kevin Muscat of Mosta CC and Stephen Grima of D Sports Lab who both got 375 points each.

Kai Azzopardi of The Cyclist-Agones finished as the Junior National champion with 200 points, while Ryan Gatt of The Cyclist-Agones also finished as National as the Under-16 champion with a maximum total of 600 points.

Jake Refalo of the Gozitan club of Shamrock Stars SC finished as the National champion under the age of 14 with a maximum total of 600 points. Ethan Grech of Mosta CC (525 points) and Liam Daly of Shamrock Stars SC (465 points) finished behind him. Nina Debono of Shamrock Stars SC won the same category reserved for Girls with a maximum of 600 points. Katie Vella Wood of Team Greens finished behind her with 350 points.

Ethan Cumbo of Mosta CC finished as the National champion under the age of 12 with a maximum total of 600 points. Kruiven Farrugia of Shamrock Stars SC (525 points) and Zachary Vella of Mosta CC (465 points) finished behind him.  Amy St John of Mosta CC won the same category reserved for Girls with a total of 400 points.

At the end of these Championship races, the Maltese Cycling Federation wants to show its appreciation to all the cyclists and club officials for their participation, as well as to the ARRTS Timing System for its great work. Thanks also go to the respective services of the Local Councils, Trasport Malta, the Police, LESA and the Emergency First Response, as well as to some volunteers, timekeepers and marshalls.
