Mosta Cycling Club strengthens international ties in Sicily

A group of young athletes from Mosta Cycling Club recently returned from a successful international training camp held in Corleone, Palermo. Hosted by the Italian club N.A.G. Scuola di Ciclismo, the camp was part of a growing collaboration aimed at enhancing youth development in cycling and creating stronger links between Maltese and Sicilian cycling communities.

The five-day programme provided an intensive schedule of training, competition, and cultural exchange. Highlights included speed sessions at the Paolo Borsellino Velodrome in Palermo, scenic group rides through Valle di Vicari to Prizzi, and participation in the Coppa delle Palme – a key event within the Coppa Sicilia di Ciclismo for the U14 and U16 riders.

Beyond the physical training, the camp also offered opportunities for knowledge sharing between coaches, gym-based power tests, and a cultural visit to Corleone’s historic centre and the Cascata delle Due Rocce Natural Park. An official meeting with the Mayor of Corleone, Sig. Walter Ra’, further underlined the community’s support for international youth sport initiatives.

“This camp was more than just a training opportunity. It was a valuable experience in athletic development, cultural exchange, and team building,” said Winston Pirotta, President, Mosta Cycling Club. “It also strengthens our commitment to creating pathways for Maltese cyclists to participate in competitions across Sicily and Italy.”

This training camp provided the Club with enhanced athlete performance through varied terrain and structured training as well as ongoing mentorship from Italian coaches who gave valuable insights into their coaching methods and ways how to manage clubs more effectively.

“We are pleased to see that this visit has resulted into a  joint commitment which will result into a long-term collaboration across all competitive categories, from U12 to Elite and Masters” continued Pirotta.

Mosta Cycling Club extended its sincere thanks to all those who contributed to the success of the camp, particularly Mr. Alessandro Vella and Mr. Samuel Spiteri, Club committee members who accompanied the cyclists, as well as Mr Joe Bajada, Secretary of the Malta Cycling Federation, Sig. Massimo Melidoro, President of N.A.G. Scuola di Ciclismo, and the many parents and volunteers whose support made the experience possible.
