Malta’s leading cyclists will battle for national honours this Sunday as the Malta Cycling Federation stages the 2026 National Road Championships in St. Paul’s Bay.
The championships will get underway at 7:00 a.m., bringing together the country’s top riders across the Elite, Junior, Masters and Women’s categories in one of the most prestigious events on the local cycling calendar.
Beyond the national titles at stake, this year’s championships will also feature a distinguished international guest. Ivan Basso, Sport Manager of Team Polti Visit Malta and a two-time Giro d’Italia champion (2006 and 2010), will be present throughout the event, adding further prestige to the occasion.

Basso is regarded as one of the most accomplished professional cyclists of his generation, having enjoyed a successful career at the highest level of international road cycling before moving into team management.
The Elite and Junior competitors will contest an 18-lap race covering approximately 97 kilometres, while the Masters 40+, Masters 50+ and Women’s races will each consist of 12 laps, covering around 64 kilometres.
