Antonsen through to Thailand Open final after Chinese World No. 1 withdraws

Danish World No. 3 Anders Antonsen has reached the final of the Thailand Open without hitting a single shuttle, after Chinese World No. 1 Shi Yuqi pulled out of their semi final for reasons that are yet to be confirmed.

The withdrawal was announced by Badminton Thailand on their Facebook page, though no explanation has been given for the decision.

Antonsen will now face either home favourite Kunlavut Vitidsarn or Taiwan’s Chou Tien Chen in Sunday’s final. Interestingly, Antonsen lost to Vitidsarn in the same final a year ago.

The 29 year old from Aarhus is chasing the 11th title of his career on the BWF World Tour. It would also be his first trophy of 2026, with Sunday marking his first final appearance on tour since winning the French Open back in October.

Denmark last won the Thailand Open in January 2021 through Viktor Axelsen, but could have representation in more than one final on Sunday.
