Pembroke Athleta Athletics Club secure 87 medals at Junior Championships

Pembroke Athleta Athletics Club produced a strong display at the Junior Athletics Championships, finishing the competition with a total of 87 medals across the Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 categories.

The club secured 35 gold medals, 27 silver medals and 25 bronze medals during the two day event, with athletes competing across track and field disciplines. The performances highlighted the club’s depth across multiple age groups and events.

Among the leading performers in the Under 12 category were May Spiteri, who won six gold medals and one silver medal, Iker Azzopardi with four gold medals and two silver medals, and Riccardo Agius, who secured three gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal.

In the Under 14 category, Jack Herrera Role’, Kaine Micallef and Aurora Desira all recorded multiple podium finishes. Herrera Role’ won three gold medals and three silver medals, while Micallef and Desira each secured three gold medals and one silver medal.

The Under 16 category also produced several notable performances for Pembroke Athleta Athletics Club. Jamie Borg and Timothy Rizzo Naudi each won two gold medals and two silver medals, while Sophie Cassar Torregiani and Francesco Falzon both secured two gold medals.

Several athletes also achieved personal bests and championship records during the event. Ella Borg Degiorgio set a championship record in the Girls Under 16 Pole Vault with a clearance of 2.90m. Matthew Xuereb claimed gold in the Boys Under 16 3000m, while Sophie Cassar Torregiani completed a distance double after winning both the 800m and 1500m events.

Pembroke athletes also delivered strong relay performances, securing medals in the mixed relay categories across different age groups.

Following the championships, the club praised the commitment shown by its athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers throughout the competition.

“A huge well done to all our participating athletes, coaches, officials and helpers whose commitment and support made this success possible. We are immensely proud of every single one of you,” the club stated.

The results continue a positive period for Pembroke Athleta Athletics Club, with several young athletes showing promising development ahead of future national competitions.
