Lorenzo Lepri and Charyl Fava win the 5k Race
Christian Micallef put in a strong performance in Sunday’s Hudson Race Series – Maqluba Edition – 10km race.
The Maqluba race, known for its steep uphill section just metres after the start, once again attracted a full crowd, bringing together both experienced runners and newcomers.
Around 300 runners enjoyed ideal weather conditions as they tackled either the two-lap 10km course or the one-lap 5km route.
In the 10km race, Micallef led from the start and crossed the finish line ahead of Mark Herrera in second place and Jeremy Curmi in third.
In the women’s 10km event, favourite Josann Attard Pulis took first place, followed by Josianne Cilia Mumford in second and Bernice Zammit in third. Cilia Mumford had to push hard to hold off Zammit, securing her position by just eight seconds.

The men’s 5km race saw some new faces and a closer finish than the 10km. Lorenzo Lepri claimed victory, finishing six seconds ahead of Luke Vella, with Brandon Saliba in third.
In the women’s 5km, Charyl Fava kept up her strong form in the series with another win. Sascha Genovese earned her first podium finish by coming second, just seven seconds ahead of regular runner Nadia Mifsud.
Prizes and trophies were given to the overall winners and age group winners by Race Director Charlie Demanuele. He thanked the main sponsor, Hudson Group, for their continued support. He also showed appreciation to ProHealth Ltd (agents for La Roche Posay), Transport Malta, the Qrendi and Zurrieq Local Councils, as well as the race officials and marshals.
The next Hudson Race Series event, powered by Nike, will take place on Sunday 11th May in Dingli.
