GREE Żurrieq Wolves Hotsticks won the HAM Challenge Cup when they beat Qormi Daikin 2-1 in a match played at the Corradino Hockey Complex. It was a very interesting game with Żurrieq who were sharp from the word go to surge ahead after five minutes of the first quarter through Christ Agius. Towards the end of the first quarter, Żurrieq had a goal cancelled by the umpire after a foul committed in the Qormi area. In the second quarter, Qormi equalized the score by Steve Tanti who connected well a cross from John Williams. Despite all this, their joy was short lived because the Hotsticks went on top again through Silas Plaehn. Towards the end of the second quarter, Żurrieq had the chance to increase the advantage but Keith Scicluna’s penalty stroke was well saved by goalkeeper Aaron Spiteri. The third and fourth quarters did not produce any goals so that the Żurrieq Wolves could celebrate the victory with the climax being reached with the presentation of the cup to the captain of GREE Żurrieq Wolves Hotsticks Charlo Sammut by the president of the Association Maltese Hockey player Gordon Mifsud. Umpires were Edward Hughes and Karl Chircop.
