The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta has launched the BOV Girls Water Polo Academy, a new initiative designed to introduce more girls aged between nine and 12 to the sport.
Developed in collaboration with Bank of Valletta, the academy will offer free year-round training sessions twice a week. The programme will be led by Malta women’s national team head coach Aurélien Cousin, assisted by Anthony Farrugia.
The initiative also includes 10 free outreach sessions in schools, aimed at giving young students an introduction to water polo and helping coaches identify emerging talent.
Four-year development pathway
Participants will be offered a structured four-year development pathway, with opportunities to compete at both local and international level as they progress through the programme.
The academy was developed by the technical team responsible for women’s water polo, led by Caroline Schiavone. The ASA also acknowledged the support of Bank of Valletta, SportMalta and St Benedict College in making the programme possible.
SportMalta is providing the required facilities free of charge, while St Benedict College will facilitate access to schools within its network for the outreach component.
The academy forms part of a wider effort to strengthen the pathway into women’s water polo in Malta, giving young players regular coaching and a defined route towards competitive opportunities.
