Joint leaders Hibernians and Swieqi United both sit atop the table with 38 points, though Swieqi have a game in hand after last week’s fixture against Mġarr United was postponed due to bad weather.
Hibernians will open this matchday against Mġarr, determined to maintain their lead. However, they will be without key forward Alexis Espitia, the league’s second-highest scorer with 16 goals, as she serves a one-match suspension due to accumulated yellow cards. The Paolites have only managed one victory in their Top Four encounters—a thrilling 4-3 win over Birkirkara on Matchday 1. Since then, they have drawn against both Mġarr and Birkirkara while suffering a defeat to Swieqi. With the Owls set to play on Friday, Hibernians will be eager to claim three points and keep the pressure on their title rivals.
Mġarr, sitting third with 35 points, remain firmly in the title race. Despite missing key players Maia Debono, Brenda Borg, and Veronique Mifsud, the Greens have been resilient in this phase, securing two draws and a victory in the Top Four to keep their championship hopes alive.
Meanwhile, Swieqi will face Birkirkara on Friday, looking to strengthen their grip on the top spot. Their last match saw them edge past Hibernians 1-0, thanks to a Rafanny penalty.
Defending champions Birkirkara, currently fourth with 33 points, are still fighting to get back into the title race. Last week, they welcomed back goalkeeper Janice Xuereb after a 10-month absence and introduced Colombian forward Laura Granados, who previously played in the U.S. college system, adding further firepower to their squad.
