The Authority for Integrity in Maltese Sport presented 74 additional Sports Organisations with their registration certificates after they successfully completed the existing procedures established under the law regulating the registration of sports entities in Malta.
Six months ago, the Authority had presented the first 56 registration certificates, bringing the total number of registered Sports Organisations now to 130.
According to Chapter 626 of the Laws of Malta, all Sports Organisations must be registered in the Register for Sports Persons, which falls under the responsibility of the Authority for Integrity in Maltese Sport. These Sports Organisations include Associations, Federations, and Sports Clubs.
During a symbolic ceremony held at the AiMS offices in Santa Venera, these Sports Organisations were presented with their registration certificates, officially bringing them into compliance with the current law.
In his address to the various representatives of these Sports Organisations, AiMS Chief Executive Officer Kevin Azzopardi reiterated that registration is crucial for the very existence of any sports organisation, as it grants them legal personality. Although legal personality may also be obtained through the Malta Business Registry, he reminded attendees that the MBR is bound by the same Act (Chapter 626) to seek authorisation from the Authority for Integrity in Maltese Sport before registering any Sports Organisation. He also recalled that no Sports Organisation may obtain such status before being registered with AiMS.
He further explained that, aware of the fact that the majority of Sports Organisations are run by volunteers, AiMS is currently working on a digital system through which the documentation required during both the registration process and the annual compliance process will also become accessible to the OCVO (Office of the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations) and the MBR (Malta Business Registry), thereby facilitating the process.
In his address, AiMS Chief Executive Officer Kevin Azzopardi stated that everyone present at the ceremony should feel proud for having worked for the benefit of their Association or Federation to comply with the law.
Mr Azzopardi stressed on the importance of registration and appealed to those who have not yet completed the registration process, reminding them that they now have until 31 July 2026 to do so. He made it clear that the Authority for Integrity in Maltese Sport reserves the right to suspend the participation of any Club from competing in any competition if the club concerned is not in possession of the registration certificate.
Final session of National Sports Forum held
Meanwhile, on Saturday, the Authority for Integrity in Maltese Sport successfully organised the final session of the 2026 National Sports Forum. This marked the last session following three sessions held over recent weeks, including a session in Gozo.
This Forum session brought together various Associations and Federations from across the Maltese sporting sector to discuss governance, integrity, and the future protection of those who practise or are involved in sport.
The Forum was opened by AiMS Chief Executive Officer Kevin Azzopardi, who emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding integrity at every level of sport. He explained the progress achieved within the Authority over recent months, its accomplishments, and the long-term vision to strengthen the integrity framework within Maltese sport.
Participants were addressed by experts in the field, including Dr Sihon Gauci (Head of Legal and Regulatory Affairs), Dr Sandro Camilleri (Director of Integrity), and Dr Jonathan Camenzuli (Safeguarding Officer).
The Authority for Integrity in Maltese Sport thanks all participants for their valuable contribution and looks forward to building upon the momentum created during this 2026 National Sports Forum.
