TVMSport journalist Antvin Monseigneur, part of PBS’s sports pool of sports journalists, has announced he will contest the Presidency of the Malta Sports Journalists Association (MSJA), informing members today.
In his message, Monseigneur said it is “time to make a greater collective effort to protect sports media in Malta”, adding that after being approached by several members, he chose not to remain passive. He pledged to build an association will reflect the values of sports journalism and empowers sports media members to be a strong, respected voice with a clear vision.
If elected, Monseigneur said that he will prioritise modern, transparent governance, including amending the statute in line with Cap. 626 of the Laws of Malta and committing to regular communication and member consultation. He also pledged to remove the €200 MFA accreditation fee for freelance photographer members and trash the refund proposal. He said he will open job-shadowing opportunities with European institutions, and organise engagements with MEPs. His proposals also include a new website section for members’ articles and opinion, tapping EU funds (including Erasmus+) and widening partnerships beyond AIPS/AIPS Europe. He is promising an accredited Diploma in Sports Journalism covering new technologies and AI, safeguarding the independence of the National Sports Awards while strengthening collaboration with SportMalta, AIMS and sponsors.
The MSJA Annual General Meeting is expected to take place in the coming days.
