Malta Sport journalist Christopher Francalanza has formally announced his candidacy for the post of Secretary General of the Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sport (GħGS), the Malta Sports Journalists’ Association.
Francalanza, emphasised that his manifesto is built on strengthening transparency, communication, and collaboration within the Association. His proposals include modernising the Association’s communication strategy, offering greater support to young journalists, and ensuring that members have a stronger voice in shaping decisions.
“I have always admired the role of this Association, even during my years working on the other side of sport as a referee,” Francalanza said. “My vision is to build an organisation that reflects the needs of today’s journalists – through clearer communication, professional development opportunities, and closer engagement with our sporting community.”
He added that his candidacy also reflects the wider vision of prospective President Antvin Monseigneur, who is expected to prioritise a more unified and forward-looking Association.
Francalanza, who has reported extensively for MaltaSport across football, water polo, athletics and other disciplines, believes his blend of newsroom experience and knowledge of the sporting sector places him in a strong position to represent colleagues’ interests.
The election will be held on 11 September during the Association’s Annual General Meeting
