Athlete Ben Salnitro and triathlete Liam Daly have been named joint winners of the Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award for June.
Salnitro enjoyed an outstanding month after stepping up to compete in the senior 110m hurdles, despite still being eligible for the Under-20 category.
Running over the senior hurdle height of 107cm, he clocked 14.94 seconds and set new Maltese Under-20 and Under-23 national records.
Having already achieved the qualifying standard for the 2027 Commonwealth Sport Small States of Europe, Salnitro will now focus on the Under-20 hurdle height of 99cm as he targets qualification for the World Athletics Under-20 Championships.
Meanwhile, 15-year-old Gozitan triathlete Daly made an immediate impact during his first month representing Malta internationally.
He claimed bronze on his international debut at the Africa Triathlon Junior Cup in Yasmine Hammamet, Tunisia, before travelling to Tarragona one week later and winning gold in the European Age Group 16–19 Sprint Triathlon.
Daly achieved both results while competing against athletes up to three years older than him, making his first international campaign one of the most impressive by a young Maltese triathlete.
Two races and two medals made June a memorable month for Daly and Maltese triathlon.
The awards were presented by Atlas Insurance Chief Commercial Officer Robert Micallef, while the Malta Sports Journalists Association was represented by its president, Antvin Monseigneur.
The monthly award is a joint initiative between Atlas Insurance and the Malta Sports Journalists Association, with all winners becoming eligible for the annual award.
