Malta Paralympic Committee introduces Para sport in SkolaSajf sessions

Students across Malta were given a unique opportunity to explore the world of Para sport this summer through a series of awareness sessions delivered by the Malta Paralympic Committee (MPC) as part of the I’mPOSSIBLE Education Programme.

Led by educators Christina Borg, Tommy Wallbank and Rachel Cachia, the sessions focused on promoting inclusivity and encouraging physical activity for all students. They were delivered in both mainstream education centres and specialist Resource Centres catering to students with a variety of disabilities.

Each session was designed to educate, inspire and empower young students by introducing them to the experiences of athletes with disabilities. Activities included blindfolded games such as goalball and visually impaired athletics, giving students a practical understanding of the challenges faced by athletes. Interactive discussions encouraged students to reflect on disability and sport, and to consider how sports can be adapted for all through creative thinking and a critical mindset.

Over the summer months, MPC visited three Resource Centres and 27 schools, reaching an estimated 400 students. This is the second consecutive year that MPC has delivered sessions as part of the Government of Malta’s SkolaSajf education programme. Participating educators emphasised the importance of continued professional development to enhance the school experience for students with and without disabilities in a fun, engaging and educational manner.

“These sessions are more than just summer fun activities and games,” said MPC educator and impact officer Rachel Cachia. “They are about showing every student that sport and physical activity is for everyone and that everyone belongs. It offers students with diverse abilities and disabilities a tool to participate in sport, promoting social inclusion and development.”

The initiative highlights MPC’s ongoing commitment to using sport as a vehicle for inclusion, empowerment and education for young people across Malta.
