The Malta Paralympic Committee (MPC) has shared its future plans for Para Sport and introduced its newly elected executive team during its Annual General Meeting.
Speaking to national sports bodies, clubs, athletes and other stakeholders, MPC launched a new strategy made up of four main areas. This plan will lead the organisation up to the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games and follows the theme Inclusion meets Excellence.
MPC looked back at how much the community has grown since 2018. What began as a group of around 15 athletes has now expanded to over 75 participants involved in more sports and representing a wider range of disabilities – including physical, visual, hearing, and intellectual impairments. The committee stressed the importance of working together with partners from sport, disability support and education. These partnerships have helped change how people in Malta view disability and have opened up more respectful and meaningful sporting opportunities for everyone.

MPC thanked all the athletes and their families for their commitment and strength. “Athletes with disabilities face many challenges,” the committee said, “but they all share the same spirit – the determination to push through adversity. These athletes are role models, and as a country, we must support them and remember to look beyond the disability and see the person.”
Looking towards 2028, MPC said it is ready to take things further, improving the quality of its work and introducing new ideas. The committee also announced the support of several key partners, including APS Bank, Deloitte, Ganado Advocates, BMIT plc, the Ministry for Inclusion and the Voluntary Sector, and the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation. They also thanked long-time supporters such as the International Paralympic Committee, Sport Malta, the Malta Trust Foundation, and others.
During the meeting, the following members were elected to the new executive committee:
- Prof. Joseph Grima (President),
- Dr Julian Bajada (Secretary General),
- Vladyslava Kravchenko PLY (Treasurer and International Affairs),
All three were re-elected to continue their roles.
They are joined by a mix of experienced and new faces:
- Simon Zammit (Vice-President),
- Maja Theuma PLY (Para Athletes’ Representative),
- Dr Kristina Rapa Manche (Integrity Officer),
- Julian Cassar Torregiani (Strategy & PR),
- Marilena H. Imbroll (Grassroots and Community Development).

The MPC also thanked outgoing members Dr Laura Demicoli and Noel Aquilina for their years of service.
The Para Athletes’ Council, which gives local athletes a voice, was also chosen. It includes Paralympians Maja Theuma PLY and Thomas Borg PLY, along with athletes JeanFred Agius, Kurt Farrugia and Nick Mercieca. The council provides feedback on MPC’s projects and focuses on education, empowerment and raising awareness.
Since its founding in 2018, the MPC has worked to change lives and create a more inclusive society through Paralympic sport, promoting the global values of Equality, Courage, Determination and Inspiration.
