The Malta Football Association has announced a Sport-Specific First Aid Training Course aimed at providing personnel from its affiliated clubs and member associations with the skills needed to respond effectively to medical emergencies in football settings.
The eight-hour course will be held on Saturday, 8 August 2026, and has been developed specifically for the Malta FA in consultation with the Association’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Daniel McKean. Training will be delivered by the Malta Red Cross.
Designed to reflect the demands of football training sessions, matches and official events, the course will provide participants with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence required to deal with accidents and medical emergencies safely, promptly and professionally.
The programme is primarily intended for club and association staff whose roles may require first aid expertise within a football environment.
A strong emphasis will be placed on sports-related injuries and acute medical conditions commonly encountered during training sessions, competitive matches, tournaments and other football activities.
Participants will cover a range of topics, including the duties and responsibilities of a first aider, essential life-saving techniques, emergency response procedures and the correct activation of emergency medical services. The course will also include practical exercises and football-specific emergency scenarios to help participants prepare for real-life situations.
Those who successfully complete the programme will be awarded a Malta FA First Aid Certificate, which will remain valid for three years.
Applications are now open, with the course priced at €75 per participant. The fee includes customised football-specific training, course delivery, assessment, certification and pre-course learning materials.
