Magri’s late strike denies Monaco victory at Toulouse

Frank Magri struck a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser as Toulouse salvaged a 1-1 draw against Monaco, denying the visitors a fourth successive away victory in this fixture.

The first half proved to be a forgettable one for Toulouse, both on and off the pitch. Monaco took the lead in style as Mika Biereth found Takumi Minamino at the back post, allowing the former Liverpool winger to tap into an empty net. The visitors could have doubled their advantage before the break, but Breel Embolo scuffed his effort. The match was then temporarily halted due to offensive chants from sections of the home crowd, forcing Toulouse players to intervene and urge supporters to cease their disruption.

Despite their first-half struggles, Toulouse responded well after the interval and began to create opportunities. The hosts had loud appeals for a penalty waved away when Thilo Kehrer appeared to bring down Vincent Sierro inside the box. Magri then squandered a golden chance, sending a header wide from 12 yards.

However, Toulouse’s persistence paid off in the dying moments. A defensive mix-up in Monaco’s ranks gifted Magri the opportunity to round goalkeeper Radosław Majecki and slot home, securing a hard-fought point. While the result keeps Toulouse outside the European places, manager Carles Martínez Novell will take encouragement from his side’s spirited second-half display against a Monaco team still chasing a top-three finish.
