Eulálio keeps hold of the Maglia Rosa

Afonso Eulálio remains in the Maglia Rosa after a composed and controlled ride. The Portuguese rider successfully limited his losses and still leads the general classification by 27 seconds over Jonas Vingegaard, who was unable to gain the advantage he had hoped for in the race against the clock but stays well placed heading into the mountains.

Arensman climbs into podium contention

The standout move in the GC came from Thymen Arensman. The Dutchman produced an exceptional ride to jump three places and move into third overall. The Netcompany INEOS rider now sits 1:57 behind Eulálio and has firmly established himself as a serious podium contender.

Felix Gall slips to fourth overall but remains within striking distance at 2:24, while Ben O’Connor used a strong performance in the time trial to rise to fifth place, 2:48 off the lead, reviving his ambitions ahead of the crucial second week.

Hindley and Pellizzari remain in the mix

It was a difficult day overall for Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe. Jai Hindley dropped two places and now sits sixth at 3:06, while Giulio Pellizzari successfully defended ninth overall, 3:36 behind the race leader. Both riders remain well positioned with mountain stages still to come that better suit their strengths.

Michael Storer and Derek Gee-West continue to impress, sitting seventh and eighth respectively at 3:28 and 3:34, having strengthened their GC positions with strong time-trial performances. Markel Beloki completes the top 10 at 4:16.

The battle for the Giro d’Italia is becoming increasingly compelling. Eulálio continues to defend the Maglia Rosa, Vingegaard remains a major threat, and Arensman has emerged as a genuine third contender, while the fight for the podium remains wide open and tightly contested.
